New Language improvements in Mac’s El Capitan

Apple’s latest operating system, El Capitan, features a host of enhanced performance capabilities, and supports several languages that have been unavailable on previous systems. In terms of general capabilities, El Capitan boasts significantly increased operating speeds: users can open PDFs four times faster, view messages in mail twice as fast, and launch apps 40% faster. In addition to the convenience provided by these increased speeds, the system is also more linguistically convenient in that it increases the amount of words, numbers and fonts available to users, and allows for a speedier typing experience in dozens of languages. The new features are highlighted in more detail below:

Additional Characters and Fonts

  • El Capitan’s “Press and Hold” feature gives users access to additional characters in Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Persian, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu
  • El Capitan includes a new system font for Bengali users
  • The new Hindi transliteration keyboard adjusts to users’ typing styles over time and allows them to both type in Hindi using the spellings they’re already familiar with, and also convert English words into Hindi
  • Users now have access to a greater wealth of Hindi words with the new Hindi language dictionary, and the new Language and Region settings enable users to switch between different numbering systems in Hindi, as well as those in Arabic
  • More Expedient and Accurate Typing
  • The new Korean input method allows users to type continuously without the need to confirm the text
  • Improved Korean auto-completion capabilities in Spotlight, Mail, and the Finder enable users to find emails and documents much faster than before
  • New Korean spell checker aids users’ typing accuracy
  • New dictation capabilities in Arabic and Hebrew allow users to produce their text by speaking rather than by typing
