Policy Lessons from Korea’s Development

Focus: Learning lessons from South Korea’s past development experience, its current strategy, and the policy initiatives the country has been implementing to overcome global and domestic challenges and maintain economic growth in the 21st century.
The course considers the factors that contributed to South Korea’s growth experience from the 1960s to the 1990s and how some of its policies could be applied today; the strategies the nation employed to support innovation in science and technology; the developments that have aided its diversification into advanced manufacturing, tradable services and green technologies; and current efforts to bolster the social safety net, as well as to update skills and productivity for its aging workforce.
