Why Don’t You Love Me the Way I Want You to?
1979
15 black and white photographs ganged on a mat.
7”x5” each in frame 34x39
multiple photographs of Mike Glier and Jenny Holzer slow dancing in a dark room. Ganged in frame, With text, “Why don’t you love me the way I want you to?” From the 1979 installation at 515 Broadway of the same name. Full text in the installation: Why don’t you love me the way I want you to? We always misconstrue.
You put murder in my heart and are proud of it. How can you be the sweetest
and the most unkind? Am I helpless against your rages? You burn flood
And starve your world and I cannot prevent it.
What am I to do in the face of such capriciousness? Perhaps I must bow to you,
surrender and let you proceed as you will. I am your servant,
hold me. No! I am the victor succumb!
