I don't know where this was, or what it is, but the drawing reminds me of wind forms and worms.

A study of a mint blossom that looks like a trumpet. This field note appears in MG1866

The title is a recipe for how I would paint the scene, a reminder to myself of how to get the precise golden field. I would start with a warm green ground, and put a pinkish yellow hue on top.

Abstraction predominantly elliptical shapes of field and sky.

I stopped to chat with a woman in the community garden that is across from Hauser and Wirth in Somerset. I believe Hauser is the one who got it started. We had a really nice conversation. At the end she gave me a bunch of really noce yellow squash. I was so delighted by her generosity that I wanted to make a drawing about generosity like hers, which has become a pianting of it's own.

Clouds with sun rays. A little banal, I'm afraid.

This was in the garden at the Artist's Residence at Hauser and Wirth. All the Field Notes done in England here were done when I was an artist in residence in Hauser and Wirth in Somerset. I made some great plum jam I shared with the staff.

Concentric ellipses.

It is a garden motif that appears in mulitlpe larger compositions.

Garden abstraction. Might have been drawn on a walk. Lot of directional wind energy.

This is a gesture sketch to understand the movement of a five-leafed plant.

The process of breaking down a complicated form into a circle and then a pointed ellipse, and then a star shape, and then adding petals, and then a smaller star shape in the center.

Abstraction of a hedgerow behind Huaser and Wirth, Somerset. I was sitting on Jenny's boulders inscribed with Sappho.

The branching motif is a system, every straight line forks, and then those forking straight lines also fork.

A plein air drawing at the water garden at Oudolf Field. This field note is the source for MG1898.

Mourning doves were plentiful and had a very volumetric sound. I did several different abstractions of their sound, including one version on the back.

Swallows drawn from life, the main swallow has multiple wings. The shape is kind of cricuiformish, liek a crucifix. This drawing ha sbeen used in mulitple larger composite works, and the drawing has become a painting in itself.

This double sided field note is two studies of flowers.

Abstraction of a small flower that blooms in August, probably a rudbeckia. I noticed that the space between the seeds was a star shape.

Study of a very small white flower. One of the least showy specimens in Oudolf Fields, but a great favor to the bees.

I put in a note to myself to use complementary colors to reinforce later that the sound is unpleasant. The drawing has a raspy shape in the middle. A saw-like form. The lines extending out, 5 times from the center, and there is a line connecting those radian points making the sound more whole. The sound reminds me of a flower in form. It looks like a Morning Glory.
