Surf breaking on a sandy beach with some trash in the surf, but mostly a big pile of debris on the beach. The image is from an old memory of a visit to Eleuthera, Bahamas, on an untended stretch of beach that was covered in plastic garbage.

First painting I made in Hawaii on the 2023 trip. Yellow-Billed Cardinals are imports from South America and were ubiquitous around Honokaa. The circular forms are the sounds of doves.

On an October morning I walked through a flock of Bluebirds along a hedgerow that was full of asters and goldenrod. The bluebirds did not rise up as a a group as I walked amongst them. Instead, individuals lifted and settled a few yards ahead and then hopscotched back as I continued to approach to resettle where they had been. It was like passing through a cloud whose molecules were stirred but whose shape and position were unaffected by my passing.
