Week 6: Harvard Taipei Academy | 哈台班

现在已经开始珍惜在台湾的机会!

This week marked my third time golfing with my cousin, uncle, and his friends. It’s so funny yelling at my golf ball in Chinese telling it to “stop,” “go,” or “roll” and of course saying things like “好球!”

I also went jet skiing at a beach about an hour from campus—best $28 I’ve ever spent. The instructor was so nice and even let my friend and me drive it ourselves!

Another first: my first-ever escape room in Taiwan. Half of it was in Chinese, so I wasn’t much help when I went with my cousin (a good reminder that I still have a long way to go in my Chinese fluency). Still, it was a super memorable experience, especially when the instructor had to keep coming in to bail us out, lol.

Food-wise, I had curry, ramen, hot pot, and believe it or not, Arabian food at one of our Chinese Learning Tables. I also got my nails done for the glorious price of $35 (once again, the U.S. could never).

Later in the week, I went with a few friends to a roller-skating rink—for free! Taiwan really is taking care of my wallet.

And lastly, I went to Raohe Night Market with my Taiwan host family. My favorites? The pineapple buns, watermelon juice, and a delicious noodle dish (though I’d definitely butcher the name). I also tried stinky tofu for the first time (never again) but overall had such a great time chatting with them. Honestly, one of my highlights in Taiwan so far!
