After spending countless hours attending class, doing homework, and studying for tests, I began to realize that my time in HTA was coming to a close. However, the fun was not yet over. Near the end of the HTA program, all the Chinese classes collaborated on a class performance, as well as organized individual acts, as part of the HTA Taipei Night showcase. At first, the thought of speaking Chinese in a performance with my class felt daunting, as I had never presented in Chinese before. However, after spending the entire week practicing lines with teachers and choreography to “Umbrella by Rihanna, “Gnarly” by Katseye, it was truly a bonding experience with everyone in my class. After Taipei Night, I attended HTA’s very last weekend excursion to Shifen’s railway station and waterfall (十分車站, 瀑布) as well as Jiufen (九分老街). I was really looking forward to writing my wishes on a sky lantern and releasing it into the sky from the train tracks, and I finally did this weekend. Coincidentally, I ran into a friend from the United States who was also studying Chinese in Taiwan. These areas were extraordinarily beautiful. It felt great to wrap up my time in Taiwan with such amazing spots.
