Staff Council Meeting      Location: Human Resources Conference Room  Thursday, October 10, 2013    Time: 11:00 – 12:00 p.m.

In Attendance:  Martha Tetrault, ex officio, Colleen Bethoney, ex officio, Angela Copeland, Sue Galli, Michele Migdal, Bette Phelps, Donna Richardson, Doug Rydell Absent:   Don Chilson, Michele Rech, Tony Sinico, Minutes:

Group discussion on this year’s proposed key projects:

1. Develop robust diverse staff development programming upon hiring Training and Development Manager
a. Management Boot Camp
b. Leadership Development Program
i. Late fall – early winter
ii. Compressed schedule compared with first program
iii. 8-10 members to be recommended by departments and senior staff
c. Needs assessment and plan for programming for staff

d. Incorporate Lynda IT learning model for staff; make part of orientation and goals for performance improvement in developing new or broader computer skills
e. Design and collaborate on creating retirement planning programs
2.  Reenergize Performance Development Program, especially the evaluation process
a. Commitment from each member of senior staff
b. Redesign tools for improved understanding and use
c. Greater emphasis on measureable goal setting and follow-up on outcomes
3.  Finalize benefits review from 2012-13
a. Identify recommendations b. Design and conduct educational programming
c. Develop communication strategy
4.  Develop improved process for on-boarding new staff beyond existing programs

Kevin Thomas, Manager Training and Development will be joining HR on October 28th.  He will be attending next month’s meeting to ask all about your department training needs.

Martha is working on preparing a revised Performance Development Program to bring to Sr. Staff.  Hoping to have revisions in place for December, 2013.

Benefits Review – Benefits Committee met for the 1st time this academic year last week – there will be modest plan changes incorporated into this year’s renewal.  Looking to group for help on ways to communicate/educate the campus on the value of benefits, contributions, why and where healthcare is going.  We will know exact renewal by mid-October.

Sue and Bette were going to reach out to two members of Facilities to join the group.   Other: The flights offered at the Harriman Airport were well received and participated by many around campus.

Campus was very pleased about Staff Winter Break
