Made for a video as an aid for my painting class at Williams College during the pandemic.

Peacefull minding my own business when a family of squirrels started getting annoyed with me and dropped acorns on me, using the acorns as weapons.

Bruton, UK 1/3/20, 40º.

I was sitting in the garden in the evening, doodling, and this form started to appear that looked like a head, like an Arcim Boldo. I used the form from this field note a number of times, including in MG1707 and MG1753

Anemone study.

I was drawing the hedgerows in the landcsap ebefore me, and a very dark storm appeared on the horizon, so I quckly finished the drawing before it arrived. This field note was the origin for painting MG1834

I was sitting next to the sheep that are raised by the Hauser and Wirth gallery, who were bleating and complaining. This drawing is a description of their bleat and it is the source for MG1746 and MG1851.

I have never seen such heavy dew as I did in Oudolf Field.

I originally made this drawing horizontal. I was sitting in front of tall grasses in Oudolf Field and a breeze came in from my right, and so I rotated the page, which I ended up liking better. This field note inspired painting MG1743.

It is the duck and teh pond at once, and this field note was the start of painting MG1871.

I was drawing a swallow flying around the graden, and the lines are my attempt to follow its trajectory. Every time it changed direction I made a little barb shape. This field note, the idea of marks indicatin the flight path of a swallow, has figured into a lot of my other works including MG1753, MG1747.

Trying to capture the musicality of rain coming in at an angle.

I was sitting low in the garden looking at doormant plants and noticing that the branches emerged from a single spot in the ground and formed some sort of vase shape. It made me think about just how hard it is to pull branches like these out of the ground, so I added these barbs to my forms to allude to how difficult it is to uproot.

The cattle lowing is a drawn as a repeated eye form, and together they roll across the page like a school of dolphins. Within the cattle motif there are split sphereical forms, that are the sharp round noise of the blackbird. Lowing is the deep guttural sound cows make to communicate calmly to each other, which had a sharp contrast with the pointed screech of a blackbird.

At a certain point in my field notes, I wanted to transition from thinking abo0ut my experieince to trying to consider not only a non-gendered experieince, but a non-human one. The pronoun "it" figures in to a few a my titles to allude to this experiement, and the drawings are made with that slippage in perspective in mind. This very well may be the first example of my use of "it" in a title.

Bruton has an ancient Dovecote which is the symbol of the city.

This flower is very common on the River Brue, and known as a noxious plant. Its invasive, but beautiful. Used as a source for MG1909.

The dried heads of rudbeckia or thistle. The ellipse between the seed pod and the leaf cover looks like a smile, and the negative shape btetwwen the seeds.

Somerset, England.

On a walk in Somerset I came across a tomb-like structure, seemingly very old.

I was sitting on a hilltop in Bruton, looking out toward the plain in Bristol. There is always a wind coming up the hill from this enormous plain, so this is an abstraction of both the plain and the wind. It is the organizng shape behind MG1746.
