Mission and Vision

Our Mission

The mission of the Makerspace and FabLab is to provide a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for student workers to collaborate with faculty, students, and staff on curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular projects. We are committed to promoting interdisciplinary work and encouraging innovation and creativity through experimentation, prototyping, and hands-on learning. We help prepare Williams students to be global citizens by developing real-world skills in traditional and emerging technologies, as well as innovative thinking, interpersonal engagement, communication, and project management—competencies considered absolute requirements for effective leadership. We encourage sustainability and use upcycled materials whenever possible.

Sam Samuel ’26 with 37 laser-engraved signs made for the Envi Center community gardens. This project used locally sourced sugar maple logs from an already fallen tree in the Hopkins Memorial Forest. Hopkins student caretaker, Javi Jenkins-Sorensen ‘25, used a chainsaw to cut the tree into logs. Sam then used a bandsaw, jointer, planer, various sanders, a laser engraver, and hand tools to create these magnificent signs.
