This morning, Professor Chan had us over for one of the best brunches of my life. We sat and chatted in her spacious top-floor apartment in one of the student hostels, ate our way through a cornucopia of freshly cooked breakfast foods (including, finally, some real bread, which I’ve been missing dearly), and talked about and reflected on our experience. I’m pleased to say that I feel like we’ve become real friends – it’s always amazing to me how such different people can, by virtue of simply being forced to spend time together, form friendships, but it somehow seems to happen, and this trip has been no exception. I was also blown away by Professor Chan’s generosity in having us over and cooking for all of us, and feel extremely lucky that Lingnan was willing to have us all over for this amazing course – three weeks just touring Hong Kong would have been in no way the same, and I’m so happy that we were able to get to know this school and some of its students. After brunch, I sat in the courtyard at Lingnan and finished up my first draft of the paper, walked around and read for a little, met up with Clement to work on our presentation, and got pho in Tuen Mun. It’s beginning to feel like the end, even though I don’t feel like I’m ready for it. I’ve accepted the fact that I won’t be able to do EVERYTHING I want to while I’m here, but I hope that I can make the most of these last few days.
