“Exploring 1200 years of Kyoto’s cultural history
through modern craftsmanship”

ご招待 | Invitation
ウィリアムズ大学ウィンター・プログラム「工芸を通して見る 1200 年の京文化、歴史と今」では、10 日間の京都滞在期間を含む 1ヶ月に渡り、「宗教」「茶の湯」「織物」「能」という4つのテーマで、8名の学生たちが今に生きる伝統とそれを支える人物 たちに迫ります。そのプログラムの集大成として、伝統工芸およびそれを培ってきた文化について学生たちが学んだことを発表し、 お世話になった京都の皆さまに還元することを目的とし、成果発表会を行います。ぜひとも万障お繰り合わせの上、ご参加いただ けましたら幸いです。

You are invited to join the Williams College Project Presentations on “Kyoto Artisans” held on Thursday, January 19th, from 16:00 – 18:30 at KYOCA. Come to hear what the students have learned and how they have been transformed by meeting with Kyoto artisans.

The Project Presentations are the culmination of a month-long winter travel course at Williams College on “Kyoto Artisans: Exploring 1200 years of Kyoto’s cultural history through modern craftsmanship.” The course aims to explore the cultural history of Kyoto especially how traditional craftsmanship has been perpetuated and transformed in the modern era. By engaging with thriving traditional artisans in Kyoto, students will seek to arrive at their own conclusions about what it means to sustain tradition, while balancing modernization and innovation.
