Fiscal Year Increase
Martha shared that the general increase for this year will be 2.5%. Some staff may receive additional increases from structural adjustments (market adjustment) and merit recommendations. Department heads collaborate with Human Resources to determine who receives merit either to base or as a bonus. This is the first year that hourly staff will be eligible for bonuses. Admin staff has been receiving bonuses for seven years now. It is anticipated that the salary letters will be out by June 16.
In addition, Martha announced that she would be conducting two workshops on compensation. It was part of compensation committee’s recommendation to increase communication about our compensation philosophy and structure. This would help staff better understand Williams’s strategy and structure for determining salaries.
Review Tuition Reimbursement Policy Proposal
Kevin shared the summary of the Tuition Reimbursement discussion in the April meeting. HR will then write the recommendation to Fred and ultimately senior staff and from there craft the policy. The goal for this meeting is to identify recommendations:
- Should the College pay tuition up front
- Can courses be taken towards a certificate, degree, or independently
- Should courses be restricted to only job-related
- Should the grade requirement be lowered to a grad of C or better or Pass/Fail for a certificate program
- What is a supervisor’s role in approving courses for the policy
- Should schedules be allowed to flex to accommodate classes or be outside work hours or require use of paid time off
The discussion with recommendations was captured and will be incorporated into a proposal for senior staff sometime this summer. The Council and the DART sub-committee hope for a September announcement of the new policy.
