Troy, NY, to replace all lead pipes by increasing water rate

“Concerns over lead water pipes have sent shockwaves through the city of Troy, with community leaders discovering they might be at risk.

Sean Collins, who leads the Troy Area Labor Council, joined a group of parents outside Troy City Hall as more than just a union leader. His wife is nine months pregnant and they just found out their water service line is made of lead. His wife got a blood test. The city took water samples. They haven’t gotten any results yet, but lead is considered unsafe at any level and is especially harmful to a developing fetus. It can also lead to developmental delays.”
