Letter from President Adam Falk

To the Williams Community,

I’m shocked to have to report to you that Bill DeWitt, professor of biology, died at home yesterday afternoon.

A member of the Class of 1961, Bill has been a mainstay of the biology department and the college since his return to Williams in 1967. It’s hard to imagine his not being among us.

The many students who knew and admired him include the large number he taught in Biology 101.

Griffin 3 will be available this Sunday at 7 p.m. for anyone who would like to gather informally to support one another. I urge all of us to be attentive to those hardest hit by this loss. Students who would like to talk individually are welcome to visit at any time with the staff of the Dean’s Office, Chaplains’ Office, and Counseling Services.

All of our thoughts and hearts are now with Bill’s colleagues, students, friends, and especially his family.

With sadness,
Adam Falk
President
