CloneCoordinate is a free, open-source electronic laboratory notebook specifically for cloning. You can get your own copy started in minutes. Read about CC in our ACS Synbio paper or our CC guide and orientation. Try a realistic demonstration version. Get Accessory Sheets here to organize and analyze your cloning data.

CloneCoordinate is a data repository, sample inventory, and task management system that can let your group work efficiently together on everyone’s constructs using a shared physical sample inventory. CloneCoordinate most likely works with all the methods and equipment you use to clone now, from construct design and assembly methods to bench protocols. Rather than telling you how to clone, it supports and organizes the work you’re already doing.

CloneCoordinate guides cloning with a dynamic task-tracking system. Its shared to-do list updates in real time as steps are performed and logged so that you can see at a glance what’s ready to do. Each person working on cloning has the flexibility to choose what tasks towork on without getting in each other’s way. Instead of getting everything set up for just a few samples, you can get the most out of your multichannel or repeating pipettes and fill up whole PCR tube strips, plates, or gels every time you do a task by taking care of the whole group’s samples all at once – then leave the next step to a labmate. Pass cloning steps seamlessly from person to person so you all make progress at full speed without anyone having to clone full time.

CloneCoordinate is made in Google Sheets, so it has a familiar interface and formulas. Simultaneous, multi-user editing from the bench, desk, or home lets your team work together in real time from any device, and automatic version history and backups ensure that your data is always safe and recoverable. Installation takes just a few clicks.

CloneCoordinate tracks everything and splits cloning into bite-sized tasks so that each person can focus on one part of cloning at a time. Design, construction, and troubleshooting are decoupled without anything falling through the cracks, even while working on hundreds of constructs simultaneously. No single task takes more than a few hours and many only minutes so you can use any chunks of time you have to contribute. Even the least experienced team members can make big contributions and they’ll have an easier path learning and improving since they have everyone’s designs to work on and something to switch to any time they get stuck. With every step documented and standardized, the most experienced cloners can easily step in to keep things on track. Everyone can check how things are going with their constructs at any time and know exactly what’s been done and how.
