Board Positions
The Cap & Bells board’s term of office runs from April, when elections are held, until the end of the following school year. All participants in Cap & Bells productions are welcome to vote in the election. Any member, including those not currently on campus, may run for office by submitting a self-nomination before the election.
The positions available may shift year-to-year at the discretion of the outgoing board, as the needs of the organization change. Below are descriptions for the positions of the 2026-27 Board.
Artistic Director: programming, proposals, workshops, artistic resources.
The Artistic Director(s) is responsible for the programming of the Cap & Bells season, helping with proposals and deliberations, acting as an artistic resource for directors, writers, designers, the C&B board, and as the general artistic liaison for all Cap & Bells activities to the ‘62 Center faculty and staff, the Office of Campus Life, and any other relevant parties. The Artistic Director serves as President of Cap & Bells. The Artistic Director is an elected position, often held by two people. This position is currently held by Farris Farouki & Sienna Kelley.
General Manager: communication, advertising, social media.
The general manager is responsible for house management, managing the board and organizational listservs, sending emails, show dates, promotional materials, and being a liaison with the 62 Center faculty and staff (specifically the Box Office). Responsible for all activity on social media, including GroupMe and Instagram, etc., as well as distribution and marketing, sourcing graphic designers, updating the Cap & Bells website, taking photos and coordinating student photographers, organizing tickets, and creating programs. The General Manager is an elected position. This position is currently held by Jackie Zhang.
Treasurer: managing the budget, working with FAST and OCL.
The Treasurer is responsible for managing the budget of the Cap & Bells season and for each production, overseeing all expenditures, and reimbursements. The Treasurer is responsible for submitting all budget requests to student government and the finance committee (currently FAST) by the assigned dates. The Treasurer is also in charge of submitting P-Card requests for the Production, Technical, and Creative teams on any given project, as well as making purchases through the ‘62 Center during ‘62 Center-based projects. The Treasurer must submit licensing requests to do shows legally through OCL. The Treasurer is an elected position. This position is currently held by Faith Wendel.
Head of Musical Direction: working with music directors, orchestras, music dept.
The Head of Musical Direction serves as a liaison between Cap & Bells and musicians, including connecting with the music department to secure equipment, locating and working with music directors for musicals, serving as a music director for musicals if others cannot be found, and finding musicians for pit bands. The Head of Musical Direction provides input on musical proposals during deliberations and assists in facilitating all staged readings with a musical score. The Head of Musical Direction is an elected position.
Dramaturg: theatrical and historical research, working with directors, new work development.
The Dramaturg serves as a resource for directors by providing theatrical and historical research (questions about previous productions, history/period, theatrical movements associated with a piece, etc), as well as artistic support for rehearsals when working with an adaptation If a Head of Project would like an additional dramaturg to serve specifically for their production, or to serve as Dramaturg themself, they are welcome to do so. The Dramaturg assists playwrights/directors in staged readings and helps facilitate new work development. The Dramaturg serves as a literacy consultant for show deliberations. The Dramaturg is also responsible for running any desired club events around play reading. The Dramaturg is an elected position. This position is currently held by Lyla Butler and Annabelle Borsanyi.
Outreach Coordinator: outreach, collaborating with other RSOs, planning social events.
The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for community building work, organizing workshops with other clubs, and planning social events. The Outreach Coordinator will work to bring new people into the Cap & Bells community! This involves planning smaller scale performance opportunities and organizing a Cap & Bells formal and other social events. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for reserving space and equipment for the events, requesting necessary budget through the Treasurer, and creating outreach plans with the General Manager. The Outreach Coordinator is an elected position. This position is currently held by Jack Allen Greenfield.
Performance Culture Supervisor: equity and accessibility, HR
The two Performance Culture Supervisors (PCS) are responsible for serving as a human resource consultant for the Cap & Bells Board and all Cap & Bells productions, focusing on equity and accessibility. The PCS must find a replacement for a production if they are involved in that production in any other capacity. During any given production, the PCS will make themselves available to casts, production teams, and board members and remain in close contact to ensure that any conflicts that arise are addressed promptly. The PCS will collect feedback throughout production processes as well as end-of-semester feedback from the board and lead debriefs. The Performance Culture Supervisor is an appointed position held by two people. This position is currently held by Hannah Pressman and Evan Zeltsar.
Production Manager: technical needs, production meetings, stage management.
The production manager is responsible for coordinating the technical and logistical needs of individual Cap & Bells shows. This entails finding appropriate venues, helping find a design team and crew, communicating with the ‘62 Center Staff and the Office of Campus Life, coordinating technical training and other meetings as needed for designers, as well as providing guidance and assistance to production teams and designers on all production aspects. Following deliberations, the Production Manager is the foremost authority on creating the production calendar for the season, as well as managing the Cap & Bells Google Drive and Slack. The Production Manager is the main point of contact with the Board for all stage managers and designers, assists the stage manager for a given project in running tech weekend for any given show, and checks in with stage management before and after each performance. The Production Manager schedules and leads all weekly production meetings throughout a rehearsal process, including post-tech production meetings. The Production Manager position is an appointed position, often held by two people. This position is currently held by Leigh Murphy, Patrice Moriarty, Quin Repetto.
Associate Production Manager: assisting with technical needs and meetings.
The Associate Production Managers are responsible for assisting the Production Manager by providing guidance and assistance to production teams, in any manner as delegated by the Production Manager. Potential tasks include scheduling production meetings, updating the Cap & Bells Google Drive, helping run production meetings, taking meeting notes, and finding run crew and board operators on a project. The Associate Production Managers must also attend Tech weekend and post-tech production meetings. They are also responsible for taking Board meeting notes and holding votes. The Associate Production Manager is an elected position that can be held by multiple people. This position is currently held by Josh Cohen, Jiwon Kim, and Haley Lin.
Technical Director: building the set (carpentry, scenic painting, props, electrics, etc).
The Technical Director(s) is responsible for providing guidance, assistance, and direction of all technical aspects of Cap & Bells productions. The Technical Director works alongside designers for a given project to help actualize all technical elements that a Head of Project would like to see onstage, and is responsible for working with the production team to create a timeline for design deadlines, barn runs, build, tech, etc. The Technical Director often works with the ‘62 Center Scene Shop to establish boundaries of what can and cannot be accomplished for any given production, timeline or budget. The Technical Director also leads all Build Weekend(s) and strike for any show using the ‘62 Center Scene Shop including scheduling build shifts. The Technical Director is also responsible in aiding lighting and sound designers in preparing, hanging, connecting, and focusing stage lighting fixtures, wiring and organizing light and sound in off-site productions, and providing technical direction on all light and sound aspects of productions. The Technical Director is an appointed position. This position is currently held by Izzy Weitzman.
Associate Technical Director: The Associate Technical Director is responsible for assisting the Technical Director in all areas of technical production enumerated under the above Technical Director description. Not every Cap & Bells Board for a given year has had an Associate Technical Director, but it is a highly beneficial position to have if the Technical Director position is held by one individual, rather than a co-pairing. The Associate Technical Director is an elected position. This position is currently held by Fatima Al Maliki, Lucy Shadel, and Grey Warren.
Operations Manager: storage for props and costumes
The Operations Manager is primarily responsible for managing all storage areas associated with Cap & Bells. The Operations Manager catalogues and organizes all the props and costumes present in Cap & Bells' storage. The Operations Manager is responsible for working closely with show teams to ensure that designers remain aware of which props and costumes are available to use. The Operations Manager ensures that all items are restored and returned to storage spaces after a show ends. This position is currently held by Addison Kiewert.
