Jan. 9, 2018: A Lecture on Hong Kong’s Urban Cultures

  1. Yet another fascinating lecture by the Lingnan faculty! Today Professor Paul O’Connor talked about the five paradigms of Hong Kong’s urban cultures.

2. A little bit more about life on the Lingnan Campus: a hidden gem on campus is the Amenities Building 康樂樓, which houses a cafeteria for faculty, staff and students on the ground floor and a very nice Chinese restaurant on the 1st and 2nd floor. The building is only a one-minute walk from the classroom.

During the term, the cafeteria offers a wide range of food at very affordable prices.

You may order and pay for the food at the self-service machine here.

Right now is Lingnan’s winter break. Although the choices are somewhat limited, the menus for lunch and beverages still look very tempting.

The Chinese restaurant is called “Lingnan Chinese Restaurant” 嶺南樓 and offers a huge range of food from everyday take0ut meals to luxurious seafood banquets. The food they offer is both delicious and affordable and that is why the restaurant has attracted many local residents who frequent here.

They also offer very delicious Dim Sum and many locals like to come here to yum cha (drink tea while enjoying the dim sum).

For people who are looking for a simple meal, they offer rice with 2 sides (eat-in at HK$35 which is about 5 US dollars, takeout at HK$28). But it looks like you will need to learn at least two years of Chinese at Williams in order to decipher these two menus. 正在學中文的同學要加油!

All in all, I wish we could have this Amenities Building 康樂樓 at Williams!
