Both courses are designed to help students gain more confidence in English and score higher marks on in the IB, IGCSE and SAT English exams, as well as explore their own creative writing and ideas. IB students can receive 20 hours of Creativity for their CAS requirement.

 

Introduction to Creative Writing

20 hour course – 160 JDs (includes all course material)

Running for the third year in a row, this popular course introduces students to creative writing through poems and short stories. We will explore literary devices and forms, as well as engage ideas and problems from philosophy, psychology, art history and cultural studies that help us represent the world in our writing. Each student will also create new and original work, which is revised with the help of the instructor.

Times: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays

Dates: Tuesday, August 2 – Wednesday, August 17

 

Advanced Creative Writing

20 hour course – 160 JDs (includes all course material)

This advanced course, for students with a strong background in creative writing, focuses on the particular creative and stylistic development of each student. We will engage advanced and somewhat difficult pieces of writing in order to discover their subtlety, and make use of theoretical terms from philosophy, psychology and art history. Each student will maintain a portfolio of original work, which will be revised and polished.

Times: 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays

Dates: Tuesday, August 2 – Wednesday, August 17
