First Night in Kyoto

After spending an entire day travelling, we’ve arrived! The flight from New York to Tokyo was a notable experience. I’ve never been in a plane that long,  however the large selection of movies provided kept me busy throughout the flight. I was also able to catch up on my Ethos of Noh reading, particularly on Takabayashi Ginji.

It’s interesting how the brain trys to pick up meaning from linguistic exchanges it isnt versed in. I guess that’s a lot of words to describe that while my knowledge of Japanese is limited to phrases such as arigatou gozaimasu or sumimasen, it’s fun to listen out and hear them being used by the locals.

For the latter leg of the trip I fell asleep and so I only got glimses of the journey from Osaka Intl Airport to the Piece Hostel. Once we arrived at the Piece Hostel, some of us went to Sushino Musashi,  a conveyour belt served sushi resturant where all plates were 146 Yen and special ones were 346. It was there I learned that if you would like separate bills when eating out, you would say betsu betsu.

I was very tired after returning from Sushino Musashi, but I’m looking forward to receiving our koan tomorrow, and to offically start the program!
