A long-term project, eventually these materials, comprising several thousand items, will be fully cataloged in FRANCIS and documented on the Chapin website. In the meantime, a selection of Baynes art and books is available in our Southworth Schoolhouse rooms (the remainder is stored at the College&#8217;s off-site shelving facility).<\/p>\n<p>On August 6th at 2:00 p.m., Joann Harnden, Coordinator of Education Programs for the Williams College Museum of Art, will present &#8220;The Art of Illustration: Pauline Baynes and <em>The<\/em> <em>Chronicles of Narnia<\/em>&#8221; in WCMA&#8217;s Rose Study Gallery, as part of the Museum&#8217;s series <a title=\"Williams College Museum of Art Events\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wcma.org\/general_info\/events.shtml\">&#8220;Behind the Scenes&#8221;<\/a>. Space is limited, so do arrive early if you plan to attend.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.williams.edu\/vintagepoints\/files\/2009\/08\/jekyll-serving-small2.jpg\" alt=\"On the Serving of Food\" style=\"border:none\" width=\"220\" height=\"162\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17\" \/>&#8220;The Culinary Art of Pauline Baynes&#8221;, an article by Wayne Hammond, Assistant Chapin Librarian, will appear in a forthcoming issue of <em>Gastronomica<\/em>, the esteemed <a title=\"Gastronomica Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/gastronomica.org\/\">journal of food and culture<\/a> edited by Darra Goldstein, Professor of Russian at Williams College. Baynes was often commissioned to produce pictures of holiday feasts and festivities for Christmas numbers of magazines, and she illustrated three books about food and drink: <em>Recipes from an Old Farmhouse<\/em> by Allison Uttley (1966); <em>Kitchen Essays<\/em> by Lady Jekyll (1968); and <em>The Times Cookery Book<\/em> by Katie Stewart (1972). &ndash; <span style=\"color: #993300\">WGH<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Shown above are one of Pauline Baynes&#8217;s illustrations for C.S. Lewis, <\/em>The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe<em>, HarperCollins, 1991; and one of her pictures for Lady Jekyll, <\/em>Kitchen Essays<em>, Collins, 1968.
