Hi, my name is Terricka Parker and I am currently a senior at Williams College. This blog is for a class that I am taking titled, Blackness 2.0 in which we are learning about Blackness in film, specifically sci-fi films where black people are not always present, but blackness typically is.

The header of this page is of Gamora, an alien in Guardians of the Galaxy that is played by actress, Zoe Saldana.  Her character is an example of blackness being depicted as “other” or “unusual.”  She acts alongside talking animals, plants, and other human-like aliens with distinctly African features, thus despite there being no Black characters in the movie, there are representations of characters who apparently signify/display blackness.
