Japan is the same, and many people run into issues with their diet in the first months, despite the food being delicious and cheap.<\/p>\n<p>Its hard to notice a large change if you&#8217;re just traveling for a week or two, but if you stay long term, you&#8217;ll start to notice two things: the Japanese diet has a startlingly low amount of fiber and protein. While portion sizes are low (so it is harder than in the US to overeat), many of my friends (including me) had to frequently look out for high-fiber or protein supplements to stay healthy. It&#8217;s tempting to eat ramen, udon, and yummy bread the whole time you&#8217;re in Japan, but your body is not going to like it. My suggestions for fiber supplements are the fibe-mini drinks and vegetable smoothies, and in terms of protein, try chicken bars from combinis.
