HTA Taiwan – Week 3

大家好!

Time flies so fast here and I’m so incredibly busy that I’ve forgotten to update everyone for the past two weeks (对不起!). Many things happened my third week in Taiwan: July 4th,  midterms, I got sick, and I got to interview a fisherman!

Celebrating the 4th of July here was a funny experience. Our teachers ordered us pizza and we sang the national anthem in Chinese! Although not my first 4th away from home, it had been a very long time since I celebrated the 4th of July in another country. I’m glad our teachers and everyone else at HTA made it a fun experience.

Every week at HTA we write essays to help improve our writing skills. For my essay, I got to interview a retired fisherman to learn about Taiwan’s fishing industry and its effect on the agricultural economy. It was very cool learning about a fisherman’s career and his life working on the sea. He talked about the advantages of his work (stability, pension) but also about the disadvantages (low salary, dangerous work environment). It was super cool to talk with someone I don’t normally encounter in my daily life.

再见!
