CET Taiwan Week 4: Pride Month – Taipei Edition

Exploring the Queer scene in Taipei

As the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriages, it was only fitting that I was able to spend pride month (June) in Taiwan! I headed over to 西門 (Ximen) where a lot of queer-friendly bars and other establishments can be found. Although Taipei’s pride festival isn’t celebrated until October, there are plenty of opportunities to engage with the LGBT+ community in Taipei through visiting queer-friendly cafés, stores, restaurants, and etc. Overall, my first impressions of Taipei are that it is an extremely welcoming and queer-friendly city!

Just like most major cities in the U.S. have their own distinct drag cultures, Taipei also has its fair share of Drag Queens! I was very lucky to have the chance to attend my first ever drag performance in Taiwan. Though I don’t have any photos or videos from it to show, I highly recommend checking out the local drag scene!
