ICLP: Week 0 Highlights

Jenna and I have been taking advantage of orientation week to explore and eat (mostly eat) around Taipei. We went to Qing Tian Qi Liu, a Japanese tea house near NTU, where we shared a vegetarian lunch set, a few desserts, and a pot of date honey black tea. We also went to Fireweeds, an izakaya. There, we tried umeshu (plum wine), black tiger shrimp skewers, grilled squid, their specialty fried rice, and seared flounder fin sushi. It’s been interesting (?) to see the influences of imperial Japan around Taipei. There are tons of great vegetarian options as well: we went to a buffet called Fruitful Food and ate close to three meals’ worth of food in one sitting. Outside of things related to food, we stumbled upon a really amazing bird-watching spot in the middle of Da’an Forest Park (there were people with really intense cameras set up) and explored the many bustling streets near Ximen Station. We also bought electric hand fans, and it has honestly been the best purchase I’ve made since landing in Taipei.
