After traveling for more than 24 hours, I was very tired for my placement exam the next morning. During both interviews, I was asked what my first impression of Taiwan was… I had no other answer except that it’s hot. I felt bad because that was probably the 20th time the laoshi had heard a student say “台湾好热”… But after going around the city with Kristina and Hannah, I realized that one of the best things about Taiwan is the food. We decided to eat and play as much as we can before classes start. Hannah’s dad took us to SUN WAY, where I discovered that I like sweet black soy beans better than giant salmon. We then went to Ximending to eat mango shaved ice at 三兄妹.
The next day, Kristina and I went to a vegetarian buffet for lunch. It took us almost an hour to find the restaurant, but the search was worth it! My favorite dish was the sesame tofu.
Today, Kristina and I went to a teahouse for lunch. We had the vegetarian lunch set and a special Taiwanese black tea with natural honey flavor. We also had a matcha cake, brown sugar jelly, and black tea pineapple dacquoise.
And for dinner, we went to an izakaya near where we’re staying. We drank umeshu (plum wine) and ate grilled squid, black tiger shrimp, etc. I hope we get to continue to eat good food.
