HBA Week 9

Well, it’s over. I’m currently writing this on the airplane on the way home, helplessly tired at 30,000 feet high in the sky and stressing about re-arranging my layover flight after a two-hour delay on the runway. But in spite of this annoyance, I find that all I can think about is how much I am going to miss my time in Beijing. Honestly, my initial motivation for applying to HBA was to improve my level of Chinese. A worthy motive, to be sure, and still the most significant one. However, I really got so much more than I reckoned for throughout my time at HBA. I’ve fallen for a city that upon first sight came across as unwelcoming and chaotic. I’ve made lifelong friends out of strangers that just two months ago I didn’t even knows existed. I’ve grown comfortable extensively using a language that used to exhaust me after just one hour of class a day. And most importantly, I’ve found that I’ve grown as a person throughout this entire experience at HBA, truly experiencing酸甜苦辣 and becoming stronger because of it. For anybody that has actually been reading these posts, I hope that you’ve gotten something out of it. If there’s any point that you’d like to discuss or areas that you feel I omitted, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Truth be told, you’d be doing me a favor; I’d be thrilled to have the opportunity to re-live my experience at HBA through discussion. Here’s to whatever our language studies have in store.
