Nagoya, Japan: Week 7 (July 17-July 24)

This week completed my two-week internship at the Maruhachi Tent company. Although it was very challenging, I had a great experience. From creating advertisements for the company’s tents to having zoom meetings Maruhachi’s sister company in India, I learned so many new things about business, especially related to business etiquette. I also got to see the Ukiyoe Motion Exhibition, an immersive exhibition that uses projection mapping to create graphical digital artworks, because Maruhachi actually designed some of the tents used to project some of the digital artworks. I even got to try welding at a factory in Gifu prefecture, which was very difficult due to barely being able to see out of the welding helmet. Also, from having to speak in Japanese constantly in front of employees every day, I also gained confidence in my ability to give speeches or presentations in front of people. This weekend, I met my high school host sister’s friends and took purikura, a type of Japanese photo booth, with them. I also went to Nagashima Spa Land, an amusement park, with my host family. The park was surprisingly empty, possibly due to the heat, so we got to ride almost all of the roller coasters multiple times.
