Nagoya, Japan: Week 1 (May 31-Jun 6)

This week, I moved from Osaka to Nagoya for my Japanese summer program. Saying goodbye to my host family in Osaka was bittersweet, but I am glad to have made lifelong friends, and look forward to meeting my new host family in Nagoya. My new host family consists of a host mother, father, highschool daughter, middle school daughter, their grandparents, and a little toy poodle. They have been very welcoming and kind, and we had a great barbeque welcome party together on the first day. I also experienced the Japanese tea ceremony with my host family, where I had matcha and beautiful Ajisai wagashi, a traditional confection that looks like the colorful hydrangeas that are in season right now. I also had my summer program orientation at Nanzan University, where I took a placement test and met some of my classmates and teachers. I am taking a business Japanese program, where I will study business Japanese manners and language for one month, and have an internship with a Japanese tent company for one month.
