CET Taiwan Week 3: First full week outside of Quarantine

Move-in day:

The taxi ride from the quarantine hotel to the apartment I will be staying at this summer was the most surreal experience after being in isolation for a week. Immediately, I was welcomed by Taiwan’s scorching weather (thought I quickly found out the weather would only continue to get hotter over the summer 🥵 ).

After arriving at my new home, I got acquainted with my housemates who are all college students from the U.S. We went out to a chain conveyor-sushi restaurant called スシロー壽司郎 (Sushirō).

The essential idea with this kind of restaurant is that you sit right beside a conveyor belt with individual sushi plates constantly moving past you. You’re free to take whatever you find appetizing and can even custom order using the touch pad screen by the table. It was a bit of a chaotic first experience for me, but I enjoyed trying new kinds of sushi I never found in the U.S. before.

A sign in the restaurant bathroom I thought was funny!

Over the weekend, I went over to visit National Taiwan University’s campus.

Very California-esque!

I fell in love with the natural beauty of campus and was even surprised by some of the birds I saw!

My first time seeing a black swan in real life!

Although it would be a while until my Chinese classes were held in person, I was excited to finally see where I would be studying in the weeks to come.

Gorgeous view on campus
