Champ de Mars, home to many tent dwellers up until recently, hosted the country&#8217;s first carnival\u00a0since the happening of the devastating earthquake. Locals took the streets dressed in extravagant costumes, decorated in flowers, while displaying the roots of Haiti through the <em>paysans<\/em> (countrymen).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-108\" title=\"Paysan Yo\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval2-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval2.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Similar to many countries in the Caribbean, Haiti&#8217;s carnivals usually involve dozens of music groups\/bands parading around <em>sou cha\u00a0<\/em>(on floats) as hundreds of people follow behind in song and dance. In addition, many flock to the streets to watch the more accessible dance troupes and\u00a0<em>ban a pye\u00a0<\/em>(walking bands) rejoice in their culture through performance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-107\" title=\"Deguisement des Fleurs\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval1-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval1-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/soca\/files\/2012\/08\/canaval1.jpg 472w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Carnaval des Fleurs\u00a0<\/em>is an enjoyable experience for adults and children alike.
