The sources represent important and incisive foundations of the fields that I view as a jumping off point into the wide waters of the study of oceans which, thanks to such contributions, has blossomed in the last decades. Many of these sources could easily fall under numerous headings, since scholars in the study of oceans often share a collective investment in questions of environment, race, gender, class, and much more.
