Being an AFROTC cadet is a large commitment of time and effort. However, it is also very rewarding, and it is a unique educational experience. The following are a few things that pertain to Williams cadets specifically:
- Williams is a cross-town school for Air Force ROTC Detachment 550. The Detachment is based at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute located in Troy, NY. This means that there is 45 minute commute for all ROTC classes and events.
- Given the drive to RPI, freshman have been allowed to keep a car on campus in order to travel to and from ROTC events.
- The financial aid scholarship policy at Williams was recently adjusted to be more generous when it comes to military scholarships. You can learn more about that here: http://finaid.williams.edu/how-it-works/grants-scholarships/
- As a cross-town school Williams’ holiday breaks do no always line up with RPI’s holiday breaks. Cross-town cadets (aka cadets at Williams) are not responsible for any ROTC classes that they miss while their own school is on break and RPI is in session.
