Examination and Membership

RASAN Contact Certification Examination

Also known as the RASAN-CCE, the RASAN Contact Certification Examination allows trainees to participate in RASAN-sponsored contact protocols.

Membership Levels

RASAN Certified Member

In order to participate in RASAN Contact processes, — that is, in order to be eligible to take appointments as representatives of RASAN — members must be RASAN Certified Members. RASAN Certified Members undergo the RASAN Contact Certification Examination (RASAN-CCE), which evaluates their readiness and ability to successfully support a survivor. Upon successful completion of the RASAN-CCE, these RASAN trainees are considered RASAN Certified Members, and are therefore eligible to all the rights and responsibilities of RASAN Uncertified Members, and in addition, are eligible to participate in RASAN Contact processes.

RASAN Uncertified Member

All trainees who complete the entire RASAN Training Curriculum are eligible to become RASAN Uncertified Members. RASAN Uncertified Members are considered full members and representatives of RASAN, and are therefore eligible to participate in all RASAN meetings and events. However, RASAN Uncertified Members may not participate in RASAN Contact processes.

No RASAN Membership

Trainees who do not complete the training curriculum will be deemed Ineligible and cannot obtain RASAN Membership.

It’s your choice.

Trainees have a choice: they may either submit an Intent to Certify and complete the RASAN-CCE in order to obtain RASAN Certified Membership, or they may choose to not submit an Intent and automatically become RASAN Uncertified Members.

RASAN Contact Certification Examination

The RASAN-CCE is intended to ensure that RASAN Certified Members can satisfactorily support a contact through a conversation. The RASAN-CCE is administered by a RASAN Training Coordinator, RASAN Board Member, or a selected RASAN Certified Member.

The RASAN-CCE is a role-play Zoom contact with pre-determined scenarios. The trainee will play the part of the RASAN Member; the administrator will play the contact. During the RASAN-CCE, the administrator will evaluate the trainee on certain aspects of the contact. Trainees may use any provided RASAN training resources to assist them during the RASAN-CCE.

Measures of Success

The RASAN-CCE is designed to measure a trainee’s ability to perform the measures across four groups. Some measures are considered critical and others are considered corrective.

  • Group A: Introduction
    • Verifies contact identity without using contact identifying information.
    • Gives name and RASAN credentials.
    • Reminds the contact about confidentiality of call.
    • Establishes that the contact is in a safe space.
    • Extends thanks to the contact for reaching out.
  • Group B: Emotive, Active, and Supportive Skills
    • Leads into conversation.
    • Paraphrases with bookend clarifiers
    • Regularly reaffirms and validates emotions and decisions. Validates feelings, but not necessarily what feelings are based on.
    • Regularly checks in with the contact.
  • Group C: Planning, Self-Care, and Resources
    • Establishes and recaps short-term and long-term plans, sharing self-care techniques and resources.
  • Group D: Conclusion
    • Before ending the conversation, checks in again to see if the contact would like to talk about anything else.

Examination Outcome

In order to obtain a satisfactory remark on the RASAN-CCE, trainees must meet all critical measures and at least three corrective measures. There are three levels of satisfactory remarks (Levels III, IV, V), which denote the trainee’s performance on the RASAN-CCE. Notwithstanding, all three of these levels will result in the trainee being granted RASAN Certified Membership.

An unsatisfactory remark will be given on the RASAN-CCE when a trainee misses one or more critical measures, or if the trainee meets all critical measures but meets two or fewer corrective measures. There are two levels of unsatisfactory remarks (Levels I, II). Both levels result in the trainee being granted RASAN Uncertified Membership. In order to promote to RASAN Certified Membership, Uncertified Members must undergo additional Certification Training and satisfactorily complete another RASAN-CCE.

Resources

You can, and are encouraged, to use any RASAN-provided resources during the RASAN-CCE.

We’re here to help.

The RASAN-CCE is not intended to be a difficult examination if trainees have engaged with the entire RASAN Training Curriculum and are familiar with the provided resources. Questions about the RASAN-CCE may be directed to the Training Coordinator.
