Our new plant biophysics project — and collaboration with Prof. Joan Edwards in biology — studying how Marchantia polymorpha liverworts harness surface energy from water during asexual reproduction was featured in the summer issue of the Williams Magazine in an article titled “Tiny Plants, Big Answers.”

Summer Lab Outing!

Ephs @ Soft Matter Day —Best Poster Prize and Great Question Prize!
Congrats to Anneliese Silveyra ’21, who won the prize for “Best Experimental Poster” at the 2018 Soft Matter Day at UMass-Amherst! Also presenting talks or posters at the one-day workshop were Jeremy Thaller ’19, Josh Kang ’20, Heather Kurtz ’20, Zed Lyons ’20, Justin Berman ’21, Joey Headley ’21, Hyeongjin Kim ’21, and Aidan Duncan MGRH’19. Hyeongjin also brought home a second prize for the group by asking one of the best questions of the conference. He won a bag of marshmallows.
Ephs @ the New England Complex Fluids Meeting!
The lab travelled to MIT on June 15 for the New England Complex Fluids Meeting, and Justin Berman ’21 gave the very first student conference talk from the group! While there, we met up with Sophia Millay ’21 and Nick Patino ’21, who are both doing REU summer internships at the Harvard Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), as well as Zed Lyons ’20, who is supported by Williams ASIP to do research with our collaborator Prof. Tim Atherton at Tufts University this summer.
