When I looked back at my experience with pies, I realized that I am more of a crust person and tend to neglect the\u00a0pie fillings. Regardless,\u00a0I narrowed it down to a peach vanilla cardamom pie and a German chocolate pecan pie. It wasn&#8217;t until I took a trip to the grocery store that I finally decided to go with the latter (mainly because peaches aren&#8217;t in season).<\/p>\n<p>I chose\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/melaniemakes.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/german-chocolate-pecan-pie.html\" target=\"_blank\">this recipe<\/a>, but I also stumbled upon\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gimmesomeoven.com\/best-pecan-pie-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\">this highly-rated one<\/a>\u00a0so I decided to do a mash up!I followed the <em>Gimme Some Oven&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>instructions on the filling:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-11.27.01-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-896\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-11.27.01-PM.png\" alt=\"Gimme Some Oven\" width=\"1740\" height=\"742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-11.27.01-PM.png 1740w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-11.27.01-PM-300x128.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-11.27.01-PM-1024x437.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1740px) 100vw, 1740px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And followed\u00a0<em>Melanie Makes&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0instructions regarding the German chocolate and coconut. I used the all-butter pie pastry that I made with Moiz.<\/p>\n<p>As is the case with everything I make, I wanted to make it look appealing. I realized that pastry dough has a similar consistency to gum paste and fondant, both of which I occasionally use when I decorate cakes. Unfortunately, I got distracted while it was baking and it&#8230;browned quite a bit.
