In fact, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve\u00a0<em>had<\/em> mincemeat pie in probably 30 years or more, not since some childhood Christmas vaguely remembered. But as soon as I smelled the mince as it began stewing, a flood of childhood memories came back and I knew that this was\u00a0<em>precisely<\/em> what Christmas was supposed to smell like!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2014\/01\/20131225-mincemeat-pie-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37\" alt=\"20131225-mincemeat-pie-1\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2014\/01\/20131225-mincemeat-pie-1.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2014\/01\/20131225-mincemeat-pie-1.jpg 960w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2014\/01\/20131225-mincemeat-pie-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/lifeofpie13\/files\/2014\/01\/20131225-mincemeat-pie-1-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s homemade mince there: pears, dried Turkish apricots, dried currants, golden raisins, sliced almonds, orange and lemon peel, brown sugar, spices (nutmeg cloves ginger cinnamon) and brandy.
