You will find this a very valuable resource!<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE: This course is\u00a0<\/strong><b>reading-heavy!\u00a0<\/b>There is a lot of material to cover for each week&#8217;s topic, and you are expected to have read it. It is your responsibility to seek help when you need it; you should feel free to see me with any questions.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080\">Course Requirements and Grading<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b> A. <\/b>Each student will present five papers in tutorial session, and will respond to five papers.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Papers<\/span><\/strong><\/em>:<em>\u00a0<\/em>Submitted papers should be no fewer than five (unless otherwise directed) double-spaced, single-sided, numbered, pages with standard margins. Bibliographies (required) plus tables and figures (optional, but encouraged) do not count in the page total. Papers\u00a0should be carefully proofread for spelling, grammar and punctuation, which will be factored into the grade. Citations should be in the format of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.libs.uga.edu\/ref\/chicago2009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Manual of Style<\/a>. I will offer feedback on the writing as well as on the content of each paper, and will especially look for improvement in the former. E-mailed pdf versions of papers are due both to me and to your\u00a0tutorial partner no later than 24 hours before your\u00a0scheduled tutorial session.\u00a0Presenters may use\u00a0PowerPoint from their laptops during\u00a0their paper presentations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>Responses<\/em><\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0Response papers from the student not presenting can be in either text or outline form. The responder should bring paper copies for me and for the presenter to the tutorial session. Responses should\u00a0demonstrate not only that you have read the assigned material, but that you have read your partner&#8217;s paper and\u00a0understand the arguments presented.<\/p>\n<p><b>B. <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Homework<\/span><\/em><\/b>:<b>\u00a0<\/b>There will usually be homework problems to be handed in by each partner and discussed in tutorial sessions.<\/p>\n<p><b>IMPORTANT NOTE:<\/b> Attendance at all of your tutorial sessions is mandatory. Unexcused absences will result in a grade penalty.<\/p>\n<p>The final grade will be determined\u00a0<em>approximately<\/em>\u00a0as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quality of written papers: 25%<\/li>\n<li>Quality of presentations: 25%<\/li>\n<li>Quality of responses to partner&#8217;s papers and presentations: 20%<\/li>\n<li>Homework: 20%<\/li>\n<li>Growth in understanding and improvement in writing during the course: 10%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080\">Scheduling<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Tutorial meetings will be arranged according to student pairing and availability.
