After four years in the basement of the Bronfman Science Center, our lab is moving to the new South Science Building. Making the move happen required a lot of labeling, disassembly, and packing, but everything is on its way over. Most exciting, of course, is following the optical tables. We pick up the move after the tables had already been lifted out of the BSC basement via a ventilation shaft (which, sadly, I was not around to photograph):
The tables were then transported to the new building by flatbed truck and forklift, and set up on dollies to be rolled into the labs.
Finally, the tables were rotated to flat with the help of an engine hoist and placed on their legs.
All told, moving and setting up the department’s seven tables took the riggers three days.
