After implementing a new diode laser at 866 nm and an AOM at 397 nm, Ashay Patel ’18 has successfully trapped our first mixed-species chains. Pictured here are 40Ca+ and 44Ca+ :
In both the top and bottom part of the panel the two ions are both being illuminated by two laser frequencies. However, the top part of the panel has extra power in the laser exciting the 40Ca+ ion, while the bottom power has the extra power in the 44Ca+ laser, allowing us to highlight one isotope versus the other.
