So a fun side project in which I’m currently knee-deep: translation of Lucian’s Hetairikoi Dialogoi, which is one of those works woefully under-represented in the corpus of classical scholarship, and even in the availability of the texts themselves, because of historical cultural attitudes toward sex work. So many compilations of Lucian’s works simply omit this collection! The most contemporary English translation I’ve been able to find is from 20 years ago, and the translation (like its predecessors) is so frustratingly and stupidly euphemistic, in service of all sorts of problematic norms.
My aim is to get an English translation out into the world which at least avoid some of the more egregious failures of past translations. Wish me luck!
