Fellowship Applications Open

Dear Prospective and Returning Members of Williams Effective Altruism,

Thank you to everyone who came to the first community dinner last Sunday. Future ones will involve activities, presentations, special guests, and most of all conversation. To those who couldn’t make it this time, we hope you see you there next Sunday at 7pm.
Applications to the three fellowships we’re running this fall are open from now until *Sunday* at midnight. More information about them is available on the forms themselves. The time commitment for each is about two hours per week, and you can take any number of them concurrently. I greatly enjoyed the two fellowships I did my freshman year, and I hope you find them meaningful and interesting as well.
Best,
Wyatt Smith
P.S.
Whether or not you sign up for a fellowship, you are welcome at the community dinners anytime this year. As always, please reach out to any board member if you have questions. And if you haven’t already, join the discord.

Apply for Global Challenges Project’s fall workshop in Boston by Sep 8

Global Challenges Project is running a workshop on AI safety and biosecurity in Boston the weekend of October 18th. I attended GCP in January with Elena, Reyna, and Armie, and can’t recommend it enough. I got to know many lovely, accomplished people from around the world, and had a weekend’s worth of fascinating conversations with them in groups and 1 on 1. Four experts gave presentations on their research, then hung around for hours to chat. GCP was my first contact with EA outside of Williams, and let’s just say I was very impressed with the event planning know-how (good vegan food).

Unfortunately, the deadline to apply is September 8th, before the Purple Key Fair and our kickoff community dinner, so we won’t be able to give y’all the “hard sell” in person. That being said: apply! Hopefully, Williams EA will send a big enough cohort that we can do a carpool again. — best, Wyatt Smith
