Coming Together: A Concert for Community<\/em><\/h3>\n

The Chamber Orchestra of Williams presents a special performance outside of our regular concert schedule at Chapin Hall. Titled \u201cComing Together: A Concert for Community,\u201d the concert is dedicated to the idea of fostering strong, inclusive communities through engagement in the arts. The centerpiece of the program will be Aaron Copland\u2019s Appalachian Spring for 13 instruments, a piece about life in a small American community. In addition to the Copland, we will perform by Williams composition faculty Zachary Wadsworth entitled \u201cVariations on an Unheard Theme,\u201d which will add a contemporary American voice to our program. Lastly, playing around with the idea of what, or who, is \u201cunheard,\u201d we will be staging readings of contemporary poetry by both Williams students and outside contemporary poets, including Williams alum Claudia Rankine, in between each movement of the Wadsworth. In order to issue a message of inclusion, especially in this political moment, and to bring forth the voices of people who have been traditionally silenced, we will prioritize the voices of people from historically marginalized populations, as well as poetry that deals explicitly with political issues, in selected the poem which will be read. Our overall hope is that this concert will be a moment for the community to come together, a time for healing and restoration, and an opportunity to foster an inclusive community as an act of resistance in this political moment. In the spirit of building community, and in order to have an immediate, tangible impact, we will be accepting donations at the \"\"concert for the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition.<\/span><\/p>\n
