{"id":3353,"date":"2015-11-12T00:24:32","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T05:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/college-council\/?page_id=3353"},"modified":"2015-11-16T23:04:25","modified_gmt":"2015-11-17T04:04:25","slug":"about-cc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/college-council\/?page_id=3353","title":{"rendered":"About CC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><em>College Council is Williams College\u2019s campus-wide student representative body.<\/em><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">CC\u2019s most important functions include the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giving students a voice regarding campus issues.<\/li>\n<li>Responsibly and fairly funding over 150 student groups and various campus events.<\/li>\n<li>Providing a starting point for student initiatives to improve the campus or college programs.<\/li>\n<li>Appointing students to the student-faculty committees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We&#8217;ve compiled a brief list of some of our past successful projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Came up with the idea for Purple Cow Gelato (yum!)<\/li>\n<li>Facilitated the a-cappella groups\u2019 return to Brooks Rogers and Chapin for their final concerts<\/li>\n<li>Successfully worked with the CUL to extend swipe access hours into Hollander and Schapiro<\/li>\n<li>Worked with Dining Services to increase variety at various venues on campus<\/li>\n<li>Funded most of and assisted in the planning for Williams Day.<\/li>\n<li>Formed a Rollover Task Force that will work over the summer to create proposals to advise next year\u2019s Council on how to manage the $110,000 of rollover funds<\/li>\n<li>Ensured the longevity of groups like the Sailing Team with high capital expenditures by allocating funds through the Capital Investment Fund (CIF).<\/li>\n<li>Institutionalized the Mental Health Committee as an official College Council committee<\/li>\n<li>Advocated for better resources for JAs through the Health Center<\/li>\n<li>Worked with the Chaplain\u2019s Office to reinstate Life Raft, a support group for students and community members struggling with grief<\/li>\n<li>Partnered with the Mental Health Committee for an all-campus discussion, \u201cOur Mental Health: Where Do We Go From Here?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>NAB\/SAB hours: Council worked with the Committee on Undergraduate Life to extend the hours of Hollander and Schapiro until 12:30am Monday through Thursday and from 1pm to 12:30am on Sundays.<\/li>\n<li>Refined the process for starting a new club on campus<\/li>\n<li>Facilitated a discussion about the use of the Lower Goodrich Dance Studio to allow our performance groups access to it during their performances<\/li>\n<li>Updated the Textbook Reserve Program: rent your textbooks for use in Sawyer and Schow<\/li>\n<li>Reinstated Facilities Directors Committee, which discusses and recommends policy on issues such as summer storage, dorm room furniture, snow removal, campus beautification, and residence hall vandalism<\/li>\n<li>Formed a Student\/Security committee and had regular meetings with the Directors of Security to begin reviewing policies pertaining to parties, fines, and discipline at Williams<\/li>\n<li>Clarified final paper\/exam return policy: be sure to ask your professors for your finals back if you want them.<\/li>\n<li>Funded and arranged for the New York Times to be available again in Paresky<\/li>\n<li>Buying computer chargers for rent in the libraries<\/li>\n<li>Updated Sawyer\u2019s Video Game Library<\/li>\n<li>Bought paddle balls and rackets for the courts behind Mission (pick them up in Security)<\/li>\n<li>Water dispenser in Schow<\/li>\n<li>Gourmet Salads in the &#8217;82 Grill<\/li>\n<li>Late Night Specials: shaking up Snack Bar with well-priced specials<\/li>\n<li>Purchased oven mitts for more than 20 dorm kitchens around campus<\/li>\n<li>Expanded drink selection at Grab \u2018n Go<\/li>\n<li>Comment boxes in dining halls<\/li>\n<li>Vending machines: increasing the variety and maintenance, including adding healthier options<\/li>\n<li>Minutes: records all CC meetings and publishes thorough recaps of Council discussions for the student body<\/li>\n<li>Invited the Student Chairs from the CUL, CDC, CEP in to Council to update us on their work and to see how Council can assist<\/li>\n<li>Helped initiate the &#8220;Leading Minds&#8221; Ephventure<\/li>\n<li>Reviewed the Capital Investment Fund to ensure that groups needing to make big purchases to maintain their functionality are able to do so<\/li>\n<li>Mental Health Board: a visible display of the resources and mental health and sexual assault awareness\/education to be completed this summer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>College Council is Williams College\u2019s campus-wide student representative body.
