Although I don&#8217;t think the characterizations of Hong Kong as migrant, vertical, global, protest, or hybrid cities necessarily mutually exclusive or collectively exhaustive, I particularly enjoyed hearing about the notion of Hong Kong as a vertical city, since one of the first things I noticed coming out of the airport was that the buildings were extremely tall. After lecture and discussion, I went to Shenzhen for the first time. Compared to the cramped and busy streets of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was a breath of fresh air. We sang and we ate, and though that sounds simple, it was enough to make today my best day in Hong Kong so far.
