Our lecture today was about Hong Kong Cinema. With a brief overview we learned about the origins of the Kung Fu genre along with the ridiculous comedy of Stephen Chow. When I think about movies my mind never wanders to Hong Kong, but the roots of rich movies like the matrix lie in Hong Kong and I had no idea. After class I putzed around a bit then went to Chungking mansion for the field trip with the others. We found the building rather easily and before we even entered the “mansion” we were bombarded by men yelling “Indian food, delicious Indian food” with thick Indian accewnts beckoning us to buy their food. With some difficulty we were able to wade our way through them and into the building were the sense of smell was assaulted from all sides by the “delicious Indian food.” We eventually sat down to eat at the recommended “Khyber Pass” were we were treated to dishes that assaulted my tastebuds with their unique bursts of flavor. By the end of the meal we all sat with our bellies full and our mango lassi drinks empty. All in all, damn good day.
