Mathematics&#8221; at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dynamicearth.co.uk\/\">Dynamic Earth<\/a> for some 60 high school students from\u00a0Auchmuty and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.falkirk.gov.uk\/services\/education\/school_information\/secondary_establishments\/falkirk.aspx\">Falkirk<\/a> high schools, they laughed when I said &#8220;double bubble.&#8221; Apparently this is the latest slang for &#8220;cool&#8221; or &#8220;sick&#8221; in from London.<\/p>\n<p>Workers in geometric measure theory, numerical computation, and foam structure and applications pursue optimum cellular structures.\u00a0Questions include:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; What are the main difficulties in trying to use the method of proof of Hales&#8217;s 2001 <a href=\"http:\/\/mathworld.wolfram.com\/HoneycombConjecture.html\">Hexagonal Honeycomb Theorem<\/a> to prove that the <a href=\"http:\/\/mathworld.wolfram.com\/KelvinsConjecture.html\">Kelvin cell<\/a> provides the least-area tiling of space by a single protocell? Can similar tools be used to say anything about the two-cell <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Weaire\u2013Phelan_structure\">Weaire-Phelan structure<\/a> and its conjectured optimality?<br \/>\n&#8211; What are the optimal numerical procedures for determining conjectured minimizers for <a href=\"http:\/\/users.aber.ac.uk\/sxc\/two_d_clusters.html\">finite tilings<\/a>?
