{"id":1230,"date":"2012-09-03T07:28:07","date_gmt":"2012-09-03T12:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/Morgan\/?p=1230"},"modified":"2019-11-17T19:54:48","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T00:54:48","slug":"new-journal-analysis-and-geometry-in-metric-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/Morgan\/2012\/09\/03\/new-journal-analysis-and-geometry-in-metric-spaces\/","title":{"rendered":"New Journal &#8220;Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/view\/j\/agms\">Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces<\/a>&#8221; is one of a number of new <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open-access_journal\">open access<\/a> journals to be funded by author fees, such as the Gowers-Tao <a href=\"http:\/\/terrytao.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/02\/forum-of-mathematics-pi-and-forum-of-mathematics-sigma\/\">Forum of Mathematics<\/a>. The idea is that long-term it will be much cheaper for institutions to pay author fees than subscription fees, but the transition will be difficult, since while the major journals are on the old model, institutions cannot drop their subscriptions and may not pay author fees, and authors would rather publish for free in established journals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces&#8221; provides a journal for an important and rapidly growing modern area of mathematics and to its credit it does it on this new open access model of the future. I wish my good friend and the editor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ugr.es\/~ritore\/\">Manuel Ritor\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0of the extraordinary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ugr.es\/~geometry\/\">Department of Geometry and Topology<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Granada every success.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.versita.com\/agms\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Screen shot 2012-09-03 at 8.16.05 AM\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/Morgan\/files\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-03-at-8.16.05-AM-223x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces&#8221; is one of a number of new open access journals to be funded by author fees, such as the Gowers-Tao Forum of Mathematics.
