{"id":3680,"date":"2023-11-23T08:21:41","date_gmt":"2023-11-23T13:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/Morgan\/?page_id=3680"},"modified":"2023-11-23T08:21:41","modified_gmt":"2023-11-23T13:21:41","slug":"the-winning-voting-system","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/Morgan\/math-chat-archives\/the-winning-voting-system\/","title":{"rendered":"The Winning Voting System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>July 6, 2000<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In last time&#8217;s little survey among the following voting systems:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plurality (whoever gets the most votes wins)<\/li>\n<li>Runoff (between two highest vote getters)<\/li>\n<li>Approval voting (voter votes for all acceptable candidates)<\/li>\n<li>Ranking (voter ranks the candidates from 1 to n and smallest sum of rankings wins)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ranking got the most first-place votes, but using the ranking system, runoff won. But using the runoff system, approval voting won. But using approval voting, runoff won.
